OCTOBER 2017 – mELISSADSC_0159

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?

I have been a member at TEAM fitness since January 2016, when I moved with my family from Sydney to Canberra. I had been training at a personal training studio in Sydney for a few years, so I was looking for a gym that wasn’t too large or impersonal.

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

I have done small group training and PT and I like Circuit classes. I also take in a CX Worx session now and then.

What results have you achieved with your training?

I have continued to build strength and overall fitness. This means I feel better and healthier on a day to day basis. After a really tough winter, where I have been unwell for a long time and unable to train for some weeks, I am really looking forward to rebuilding and future results through being back in a good training routine.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

TEAM Fitness is a really friendly environment. Before I started my journey to fitness in 2012 I had almost never been at the gym. So after working out in a small training studio in Sydney, I still wasn’t keen on a big ‘show-off’ kind of gym where I felt self conscious. So TEAM Fitness was a perfect option for me.

My personal trainer Nathan is fantastic. He changes up the sessions so it’s never mundane and I like his no nonsense approach to training, e.g. “pick up this 20 kilo bag of sand and carry it down the stairs and back up” – simple but effective.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time??

I am a big fan of weight training, so I love a session that has a good component of strength work.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

I had never exercised regularly until 2012 when I started training through PT sessions. My main concern at the time was weight and ultimately I have been able to successfully loose kilos through diet and exercise. What I didn’t realise until I started that journey was how good it felt to set fitness goals, to reach them and to feel STRONG!

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I talk with people a lot about my experience in starting to train after having been sedentary for a long time. I also like to talk about my experience with PT and my sessions with my trainer Nathan – both the good and the tough stuff! Pushing/pulling that bench up and down the hallway at 6:30 in the morning is such fun.

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

I can really identify with this – gyms and training scared me and made me feel intimidated. I tend to think that we are our own worst critics though and our fears and anxieties are more a focus for us than for others. Trying new things and being bold should make us proud of ourselves and our efforts.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

Great, very positive. Thanks Nathan!

AUGUST 2017 – FIONAIMG_3692

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

I do personal training four times a week with my trainer Cam. He has written up a program focussed on strength and conditioning sessions.

There’s never a dull moment training with Cam. He designs workouts with influences from various methods of training for example  powerlifting, strongman exercises, crossfit and the NFL.

What results have you achieved with your training?

I’m the strongest I’ve ever been and have never felt this good. I’m now called upon to help move furniture and hold heavy nephews!!

I believe these results are due to Cam’s expert technical knowledge and knowing how to get the best out of someone.

Cam goes above and beyond in his personal training. He is incredibly professional and always takes the time to understand what your goals are and has the ability to come up with an appropriate program to achieve them. I can not recommend Cam highly enough.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

The friendly atmosphere and that it is not pretentious and showy. People are at the gym to genuinely train and keep fit.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time??

The sense of achievement and being able to push myself in a supportive environment.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

Christmas 2015 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). I have had three relapses and in addition to this suffered further setbacks with significant health issues last year. This year I wanted to be able to do everything in my power to manage my health so I could be fit and healthy. My PT sessions with Cam have been the key factor in me being able to achieve this. I am back working full time and have feeling back in my leg, fingers and toes.

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I’m starting to get some great results from my sessions with Cam. This has prompted many questions from friends and colleagues. I tell them about the great setup and services that TEAM fitness offers.

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

Everyone has to start somewhere and with the right attitude, guidance and environment your goals are definitely achievable.

Believe me, if I can get out of bed in the middle of winter in Canberra to train, anyone can! It’s definitely worth it.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

Definitely positive and above all else enjoyable.

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?

Since October 2014, however, I had to have most of 2015 off due to double knee replacement surgery and complications.

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

I do two personal training sessions with Cam per week and attend the Lite Pace class with Phil and I do one program work out per week.

What results have you achieved with your training?

I have lost weight and managed to keep most of it off, I have better control of my blood sugars, and I have improved my mobility and general fitness. I have met some lovely people and made friends. And I have a lot of fun.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I like the relaxed and friendly training atmosphere. In particular I like the fact that it is not a slick modern place as I would feel quite uncomfortable if it were. I am also very grateful that it is close to where I live.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time??

I enjoy the challenge of doing new and harder things. I also really value having a professional and intelligent trainer in Cam who is able to explain why I am doing certain things and why I cannot do others. I feel confident that I am continuing to progress and not risking further injury to myself.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

I had a health crisis which I was unable to manage while I was working in a busy, stressful job, studying part time and trying to support my parents in their later years. I retired from work in order to focus on my health and I try to treat that as my main focus now.

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

Haven’t inspired anyone that I am aware of, but I have always been inspired by my sister, Kerry, who has always maintained her commitment to health and fitness throughout her life.

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

I guess my message would be that it seems to be more about enjoying the journey of improving your fitness. It is not so much about outcomes and results (it took me a while to appreciate this) as about being part of a community of people all striving to do their best. And at the Dickson TEAM Fitness Gym everyone is friendly and encouraging. It is a positive but relaxed atmosphere where you can choose to challenge yourself to whatever level is within your ability.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

My experience at TEAM Fitness has been a warm welcoming experience where I have been supported and encouraged to challenge myself. I have gained much from personal training with professional and highly competent professionals. Going to the gym is an integral part of my life now and I am delighted it is.

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?

Well over ten years.

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

Mostly strengthening exercises such as weights but sometimes cardio workouts and used to attend Body Combat upstairs when it was on.

What results have you achieved with your training?

I feel over the years I have increased muscle mass and I feel stronger.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

It’s a friendly atmosphere with every weight you might need to use and plenty of other classes to keep you interested.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time??

Just working out and then feeling 100% better after spending my time at the gym.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

I needed to lose weight and get stronger. I lost a lot of weight through walking then decided to come into the gym and take my fitness a step further.

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I have a friend who has just moved into a local suburb and have encouraged him to join this wonderful gym which has a great location and accessible to all who live in the surrounding suburbs.

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

I would say if you want to get stronger, lose weight and ultimately increase your fitness and self-esteem you should come regularly to the gym. Everyone should do it as it helps in all areas of life particularly when you find it easier to carry that heavy shopping bag next time you’re at the supermarket.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

Excellent pleased to meet the friendly staff and trainers and have met plenty of people who have something in common with me at the gym. I’m very pleased with what the gym has to offer and will continue to attend while I’m living in this part of Canberra.

APRIL 2017 – MichaelDSC_0238

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?

I have been coming to the Fitness Centre on and off for twenty or so years.

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

For most of the time I did circuits, and also, in recent years, boxercise.

However, since the middle of 2016, when I discovered that I had an arthritic right shoulder, I have been focusing on working with my personal trainer (focusing on strength, cardio and balance) while doing a lot of should and postural exercises on my own.

What results have you achieved with your training?

I have definitely become a lot fitter over the last year, in every respect:  my cardio fitness has improved markedly, partly through doing high intensity interval training on the bikes with Phil, my Personal Trainer (PT);  my core strength has improved, mainly through the more challenging exercises my PT has given me;  my balance is visibly improved, through both practice in PT sessions and through leg-strengthening exercise;  my shoulder problem is now under control;  and my overall posture has improved, which gives me a real feeling of well-being.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

It’s a relaxed, friendly place, and hassle-free.  Apart from the need to keep up my training, I make sure that I come to the gym as much as I can to catch up with the various friends and acquaintances I have made there.  I like the way that there are people of all age groups.  Plus the facilities and equipment cover everything I need.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time??

I really like routine, mechanical exercises where I can just sit down and do it, like seated rows.  I also like doing a lot of shoulder work with a theraband, because I can feel it working my shoulders from every direction so I know I am getting on top of my shoulder problem.  And finishing off by rolling my back against a Swiss ball is bliss.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

The source of my inspiration has probably changed over the years.  I have always wanted to keep fit enough to minimise the risk of lifestyle diseases like heart trouble and diabetes.  And when I see older people with poor posture, overweight and lacking energy, I feel motivated to keep myself fit so that I can get the best out of life.  Plus now, a good level of fitness is essential to manage my arthritic shoulder.

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

A lady friend has joined (I think it was because I encouraged her, or was it Phil’s dashing good looks?) and another friend keeps saying he’s ‘gunna…’

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

Firstly, I think starting small (say in a class or with exercises that are not too hard for you) is a good way to go.  That way, someone who is not too fit or not confident can build up to bigger things when they are ready, without risking injury.

Secondly, consider using a Personal Trainer.  I have been working with Phil for about a year and it has been money well spent.  Phil has led me into challenging exercises and activities which I would never have done otherwise, without pushing me into anything beyond my limits.  This has been a great confidence booster.  And having a weekly appointment with Phil has meant that, even when I get too busy to go to the gym every day, I never neglect my health for more than a few days – so I’ve avoided the syndrome whereby a few days off becomes a few weeks off which becomes months off etc.  Remember, the Personal Trainers are there to help ordinary people get fitter – it’s not about being an athlete.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

Great.  Good value, good friends, and a much higher level of fitness than if I hadn’t joined.

MARCH 2017 – SUSIE

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?mms_20170328_185622

I rejoined in 2012 after a long break (probably 15 years).

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

I now do a mix. When I rejoined it was mostly group pump classes and some cardio on the treadmill or bike.  I wasn’t really pushing myself and was getting bored so about two years ago I started PT sessions. Now I do PT, a program devised by Cam my trainer, pump and circuit (with Phil).

What results have you achieved with your training?

The biggest things for me is improved balance and feeling stronger, fitter and healthier. I’m confident enough (and focused) to train independently. I sleep better and have more energy (very important with a two-year-old grandson).

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

It’s a gym that makes me feel comfortable and confident to do new things. PT with Cam (and occasionally Nathan) is hard (but lots of fun). Everyone is friendly and it’s nice being greeted by name on arrival. Regulars are also happy to provide encouragement and advice.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time?

If you asked me a year or so back I’d have said “when it’s over”. But now I enjoy being pushed just a little bit more and achieving things I’d never thought possible. I like the focus of PT and the fun and community (not to mention the hard work) of circuit classes.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

I realised that to take up all the opportunities offered in retirement I needed to be fitter and healthier. And it’s paid off — I’ve completed two walking trips in Japan since getting fitter and I’m thinking about another one next year.

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I’ve just persuaded my long-time gym skeptic husband to join.

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

I’d always felt intimidated at gyms and found excuses for not going – thus wasting my membership. Don’t be afraid to ask how to do something – I started pump classes in the back row to follow the more experienced regulars and develop the correct technique. Circuit classes are lots of fun under the watchful eye of the instructor and other participants. For me, working with Cam has pulled it all together and pushed me to try new things.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

It’s become a habit – fun, hard work and rewarding in a friendly atmosphere.

FEBRUARY 2017 – MAKAYLA-MAY

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?Digital Camera

Since November 2015.

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

Mostly strength and weights training – but really whatever my PT Alex tells me to do!

What results have you achieved with your training?

I’ve gone from being able to barely do 3 push-ups to being able to do 25, and reaching an 80kg squat. My small weekly improvements are the ones I’m most proud of, because it means I’ve stayed focused and am constantly moving towards where I want to be.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

One-on-one personal training really keeps me on track week to week so I can stay focused on my goals. I love the friendliness of the staff and members, and the really unpredictable music.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time?

I really enjoy being able to just focus on myself during training. Trying and reaching those bigger numbers each week is a huge accomplishment and reminds me what my body is capable of.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

Physical health has such a huge impact on all other aspects of life – and for me especially, my mental health. I joined TEAM Fitness to become fitter and stronger, and to keep these other aspects of my health in check.

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I’ve definitely encouraged close friends and family to exercise more – but I prefer having training as “me-time”.

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot e.g. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

Honestly, getting started is the hardest part. Your body is so much more capable than your mind will let you believe – give it a go and you might surprise yourself!

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

Rewarding.

How long have you been coming to TEAM fitness Centre?

I rejoined TEAM FITNESS mid this year.

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

I attend two PT sessions a week with Nathan. I also aim to attend one other TEAM gym class during the week.

What results have you achieved with your training?

I am more active than I was three months ago. My core strength has improved and I am now able to run 10km hilly trail routes.  I am running/walking at least 20 Km a week.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

The location is convenient, there is a variety of classes and the staff are knowledgeable.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time?

I enjoy mixing exercises that I like doing  with those that challenge me. I also like that the PT workouts are tailored to my fitness goals.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

My goal in joining was to improve my fitness and start running again.

What message do you want to put out there for all those who don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough?

I would encourage them to find exercises and activities that they enjoy to do and do them frequently. I would also encourage them to challenge themselves to try a new activity every once in a while.

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?

I joined in January when I moved to Canberra from Brisbane.

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

A little bit of everything – weights, cardio and even a few classes in between!

What results have you achieved with your training?

I have definitely built up my strength and endurance since training! I think my worst nightmare would be watching footage of my first PT session at TEAM Fitness!

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I like the ‘family’ feel of the gym. Everyone is so friendly! And classes are an added bonus. Body Step is great fun.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time??

Definitely my PT classes with Nathan. This year is my first year doing PT sessions and I really enjoy the challenge (but maybe don’t ask me if I enjoy them when I am 20 kettle bell swings in) haha!

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

To be honest, I actually don’t know. I think I just woke up one day and decided it was time to get fit and healthy.

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

Not yet…. but I am working on it!

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

As Gerry from BodyStep always says… “challenge brings change” and its never too late to chase that! Trust me, you wont regret it.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

Awesome! Thanks guys :)

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?

Wow! Good question. 3 years maybe? I moved from another gym to TFC a while ago. I’ve been associated with TFC for at least 6 years.

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

I do the programs set for me by Cam, my PT. Working with an injury for the last 12 months, it is a weights – based program. Before the injury, it was a mixture of strength and cardio. Always challenging and never boring.

What results have you achieved with your training?

I decided to invest in a personal trainer after seeing the results of a friend, who at first I didn’t recognise as she had lost so much weight and had gained tone.

Since I started, I have lost and maintained a loss of over 20kgs (25.4 at my best). This is despite knee surgery last year and another injury to the knee this year.

I am more toned, have much higher energy levels and more importantly, my mindset has changed and I cope better with the everyday stresses of life.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

People are friendly. Liz greets me by name every visit and other regular gym members and gym staff become familiar faces and say hello. It’s a relaxed atmosphere and feels casual in a very professional environment.

My program is tailored to me. I’m listened to and provided with a program that delivers the results I want.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time?

I love my PT sessions. They’re motivating, challenging and yet achievable.

When I do my own sessions at the gym, there’s plenty of equipment available and even though I’m presently limited to mainly upper body exercises, there’s always a wide range of choice about what exercises to do and equipment to use.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

The results a friend had achieved with PT. I had been joining gyms for years and then not attending. Starting PT made me more accountable. I knew I’d be asked about my training and nutrition each week and that was enough motivation to attend more regularly and watch my eating.

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I have encouraged family members to join.

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

If you’re concerned you’re not fit enough, you may be correct. The only way to improve that is to do something about it and to quote Cam, the worse day’s training is still better than doing no training at all.

Like most things, we get better in small steps. Take the first one and your journey’s begun. You’ll be given a program that’s right for you and will be adjusted as you improve. Compare your results to your own, not others. Notice the improvements, enjoy the support and feel the achievement.

Nothing is as important as your health.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

Pretty awesome.

JULY 2016 – CHASChas and Alex

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?

I joined in about March 2013. Dickson Pool had just closed and I didn’t want to travel outside of the peoples’ republic of the inner north for an exercise fix.

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

Bit of everything really—cardio, plyometrics and high intensity, weights. Boxing, when I have two arms, and the elliptical machine are probably my favourites. I use the rowing machine because I am masochistic.

What results have you achieved with your training?

Certainly my base cardio fitness and strength have really improved. I was surprised about this because I thought that I’d be reasonably fit from swimming. When I first started I lost about 22 kilograms and cardio fitness went through the roof. The positive change I was seeing made me a bit obsessive! Since then I’ve put weight back on—it’s an eternal struggle. Goes up and down depending on work and travel.

Damn.

Nothing is easy. Effort is everything.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

The place and people are warm and friendly. It’s relaxed and comfortable, with no gym or testosterone weirdness. People very much do their own thing, but are always open and engaged.

I’m inspired by some of the regulars here—you know who I’m talking about. They come in; they are consistent; they work really hard; they are engaged and interested; they never give up. Really like that. I watch and learn!

I’ve also worked with Alex Ford as a personal trainer for a while, who’s taught me heaps. He’s so knowledgeable and adapts programs to my exact needs. Good work, Alex!

What do you enjoy most out of your training time??

Well, three things.

In the first instance, it’s quiet time. I puff and I think. It’s a meditation.

Then I really like that I can measure how I’m going. The machines don’t lie! I’m either doing the same or better—or I’ve eaten too much and I’ve lost ground.

Finally, I like the variation. I love it that I can move so easily at the centre from, for example, weights to cardio. The layout of the place makes changing it up very easy.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

Got to stay mentally and physically active. That’s the whole point. Do not turn into a potato.

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

Not really. I’ve given the place a big wrap, but obviously not enough!

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. Joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

For me, it’s about the life I want to lead. My goals now are not so much weights lifted or distance on a machine or anything like that. Rather, I think that if I’m gym fit then I’m life fit too.

And that’s the important thing. Exercise is a means to manage life for the better and to allow us to take the opportunities on offer.

If that’s the goal then recognising that it’s not about bravado or machismo. Rather, in this world, it’s about being who we really are. Taking that first step is the essential first step!

I sweat therefore I am!

I found working with Alex really valuable. If you can manage it, then get an expert to develop a program to exactly suit you and set you up to succeed. It’s an investment in making yourself feel good!

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

Very cool.

Geoff & Jenny

June 2016 – Geoff

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?

I’ve been coming to Team Fitness since moving to Canberra from Sydney in 2003

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

I started just doing the Les Mills Body Step classes and then picked up Body Pump, Yoga/Balance and Zumba. Early this year I decided I really wanted to do some strength training with the weights and machines downstairs. With assistance and encouragement from Dragan I began this program and now mix the weights and group fitness classes throughout the week.

What results have you achieved with your training?

I’ve been really surprised how much I’ve enjoyed training independently and have found it really rewarding to see my strength and general physical wellbeing gradually improve. It’s been a very positive experience.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

TEAM Fitness provides one of the friendliest and most welcoming environments you could ask for. There’s absolutely zero attitude. There’s also a terrific range of equipment to use and trainers on hand if you have a question.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time??

There’s a great sense of satisfaction in meeting the challenges you set yourself. I always feel physically and mentally refreshed at the end of a session even as I’m catching my breath.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

Initially I joined the gym just to have some regular exercise and “get fit” but also I’d heard it was a very friendly place. That’s proved to be absolutely correct. I’ve made some great friendships at Team Fitness and in the meantime significantly improved by fitness.

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I’ve certainly told others about what a great fitness centre it is and what a relaxed and genuinely friendly place it is to train. Several have given it a go but I don’t think they were ready to commit to regular training.

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different classes, programs/assessments etc

I think it’s important to realise that joining a gym and doing any kind of training isn’t about trying to look like some idealised buffed gym-junkie. It’s about feeling and looking better within yourself. And many other benefits like improvements to your health and social wellbeing are part of the ongoing process. And don’t worry what you look like. Nobody else does!

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

It’s become a regular part of my life that I really enjoy and it makes me feel part of the community when I see other team members out and about.

May 2016 – BrettIMG_0279

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?

I have been going to Team fitness centre for about a year now

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

I have done some group fitness classes (Body pump, Cx worx & boxing circuit ) and weight training.  Currently I am doing body pump class, weight training and personal training with Cameron

What results have you achieved with your training?

I am very happy with my results that I have achieved.  I am stronger, fitter and loss some weight.  I still have a way to go but I am sure that I will get there.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I like the friendly vibe, from both the staff and the other members. I like that the staff know my name and take the time to greet me and ask how I am going.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time?

I really enjoy doing my weight programme that Cameron has put together for me. I am reaching my goals and having to make new goals

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

I was caught in an unhealthy life style and after attending the relay for life, I knew that things had to change.  So I joined Team Fitness and haven’t looked back.  After getting Cameron as my personal trainer, I have started to really enjoy training again and reaching my goals.

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?amelia

I have been attending TEAM Fitness Centre since July 2015

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

I train with Nathan and love going to Pump and RPM classes. I am a RPM happy clapper!!

What results have you achieved with your training?

I am stronger and fitter now compared to when I first started and I no longer have a long list of excuses to not work out.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I love the atmosphere of TEAM Fitness, it is a welcoming and non judgemental place to work out.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time??

Its me time

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

I joined because I need to incorporate exercise into my daily routine; I work in stressful environment and found exercise to be an important part of my self care. I also needed to be held accountable as I am a great excuse maker and find a combination of PT and classes are a perfect way to start my day.

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I tell everyone who listens about how great my gym is!

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. Joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

Just Do It!! If I can do it, you can do it! I have always been intimidated by gyms, feeling that I was too large, too unfit and worried about being judged to join. Once I joined and then pushed myself further by starting PT, I found those worries are no longer there and I enjoy my gym time.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

My experience at TEAM Fitness has been a great one, this has more of a community feel to it, with everyone being so friendly and welcoming.

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?Digital CameraDigital Camera

I have been a member at Team Fitness for about ten years or so.

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

Over the last year I have been doing some aerobic training two or three or four days per week, using the bike mainly but also mixing in some cross trainer and rowing. I do twelve minutes of intervals on the bike with ten seconds on and ten off, then a break of one minute, repeated five times.  Then I change to another machine for a few minutes, just to keep myself interested.  Aerobic sessions last only about 15 minutes in all of which is quite manageable.  I follow this with five minutes or so of stretches and crunches.  Every so often I add some more intervals in or increase the level on the machine, just to see if I can do it and what level my heart rate reaches.

On Wednesdays, following one of my aerobic sessions, I have a half hour session with Chris, where we concentrate on strength and weights and technique, and any muscle groups where I have had problems.

My next aim is to include one or two yoga sessions per week.

What results have you achieved with your training?

The main result is that I feel very much better and stronger and my weight level is maintained.  My overall health and mood have greatly improved.  I can get over any minor (or major) illnesses sooner.  And I have noticed that my heart rate slows down a lot more quickly than it used to do.

Recently I wanted to lose some weight (8 kilos) and in discussion with Chris decided to try not drinking any alcohol for about six months to see what effect it might have.  I already have a pretty good diet because I am a keen gardener and grow quite a lot of my own food.  So now I am about two months into an alcohol free period and am sleeping better and have a lot more energy and focus.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I like the environment and ambience at the Centre. It is comfortable being here and I like the variety of people, ages etc that come here.   The staff are always available and helpful.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time??

Mostly I like the finishing of a session and the feeling that I have done it.  Again.  Also its good to see the improvement in strength and stamina, as you carry this over to the rest of your life.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

I enjoy physical exercise and know that it does me good.  I want to enjoy my life and get the most out of it.

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

Not sure if I have done this.

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

The main thing is to make a start.  Dolly steps first if you like.  Its probably one of the few activities in life where you can get a lot more out than you put in.  You will find that the health benefits of physically moving and strengthening are surprisingly comprehensive and improve your confidence as well as your emotional and mental well being.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

Very good – equipment, expertise, advice and motivation-wise.  Team Fitness and trainers Chris and before him Jordan, have helped me get through some very tough patches in my health and work life.  I couldn’t imagine my life without them or the Centre.

February 2016 – kate yuilleDecember MOM

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?

I’ve been a member of TEAM Fitness Centre and its previous incarnations for close to 15 years but I started coming much earlier as a child when I used to play in the corner with the sandbag hand weights while my mum did group classes.

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

I do a variety of different things at TEAM, including buddy personal training, group fitness classes (mostly Attack, CX works and Balance) and weights training. For me, the secret is mixing things up so that I don’t get bored.

What results have you achieved with your training?

I’m really proud of the results I’ve achieved, particularly in the last 12-18 months. I’m stronger and fitter and I’ve lost weight. But, importantly, exercise has become something that I actively enjoy rather than just another chore.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I like the low-key, friendly vibe, from both the staff and the other members. I like that the staff know my name and take the time to greet me and ask how I’m doing – when I’m tired and feeling ‘meh’ about training, coming in to a smile always peps me up.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time?

Am I allowed to say ‘when the session is over’? While I do genuinely enjoy the actual training (I can almost feel myself getting fitter/stronger), I particularly love that virtuous glow of satisfaction you get after a good session.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

I’ve been coming to the gym for a long time but it’s only been in the last couple of years that I’ve gotten more serious about my training. I used to do only group fitness classes which were fun but not really pushing me. Then I gave TEAM X group training a try and it kicked me into a whole new gear – the high intensity, functional training in a small group environment was really energising and gave me the confidence to try new things. Now I’ve levelled up to buddy training and I’ve seen great results – my training buddy, Jenna, and our trainer, Chris, are both awesome too!

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I’ve never really had to. TEAM Fitness Centre is a bit of a family-affair as my mum, dad and aunt have all been members for a long time and I’ve also had friends come and go as well over the years.

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot e.g. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

Just give it a go. Stepping out of your comfort zone can be scary but if you start with baby steps and work up from there you’ll be surprised how far you can go.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

Fun, friendly, hard work, rewarding.

November 2015 – joe marando

How long have you been coming to TEAM fitness?

I have been a member for 2 years now and enjoyed every visit.

What sort of training do you do at TEAM fitness?

I do a mixture of strength training, weights training and cardio.

What results have you achieved with your training?

I have lost a considerable amount of weight but still wanting to lose more and I have gained strength, gained muscle and lost body fat which is mostly thanks to Chris Lonsdale my Trainer who has kept encouraging me all the way and pushing me to my absolute limit and pushed me to lengths I didn’t think my body could get to. This has made me feel more happy and confident in life as I know I can push through most pain barriers.

What do you like about training at TEAM fitness?

The best thing about training at Team Fitness is there is always plenty of equipment to use as there are so many areas you can train in which you just don’t get at other gyms.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time?

I really enjoy doing weights as Chris Lonsdale has put me on a training program that involves a good mix of cardio and weights. I’ve never been one that enjoys doing weights but it’s become my favourite part of training as there is a good mix of different weights programs which has kept me interested and it’s not the same weights program every time I train.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

I had been caught up in a fast pace life and was guilty of bad eating and no fitness training as the years went by and I hit a low point where I had to take charge of my health as it was starting to affect me both physically and mentally which is when I knew something had to be done. I had heard good things about Chris Lonsdale as a Personal Trainer and wanted to make sure I was trained by someone who was going to get me results and not just someone who showed no interest in what I wanted to achieve and I can’t speak highly enough of what Chris has achieved with me and I feel it’s been a team effort and I haven’t been on my own in my journey of getting my health back.

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM fitness?

I have spoken with numerous friends about joining TEAM fitness as they offer such a wide range of programs and you can work as hard as you like or if you just want to enjoy the large amount of facilities the gym offers for those that just want to maintain the fitness level they are at.

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot EG. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining for the different experiences offered?

The main message I would like to get out there is you can’t put a price on your health and fitness as it not only improves your health but it makes you feel good about yourself. It gives you confidence to achieve anything in life and for those that want to get into shape or not quite sure I say to them life isn’t a dress rehearsal. You only get one shot at life and you want to live life with no regrets knowing you have given it your all as you want to make sure that you are giving your body the best chance to live a long, healthy and happy life. It’s a fantastic gym and I strongly recommend PT for those wanting to make a change for the better.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at TEAM fitness?

I have loved every moment of my time at TEAM fitness as the staff are always extremely friendly as I spend the first 5-10 minutes at the gym talking to the staff on the front desk. The members are all very friendly, not like other gyms that don’t seem to care about results and are full of young kids socialising or making you feel intimidated. I find TEAM fitness to be an older crowd and even the young teenagers that are at TEAM fitness are always very polite and respectful which gives the gym a real family feel that everyone is looking out for each other and respecting each other.

october 2015 – sonam norbu

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?

 11 Months.

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

Weight Training and General Workouts.

What results have you achieved with your training?

I have lost a lot of body fat and weight. I was 92 KG when I joined in November 2014 and now I am at 76 KG. I have also gained strength and basic muscle definition and learned to eat and live healthy.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

It is a very well equipped place, quiet and pleasing and the staff are great.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time?

Basic weight training.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

My parents are both diabetic and I don’t like the way they suffer so I decided to be serious about my health.

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

Five of my friends joined TEAM Fitness after me and my changes.

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

It is quite hard to make the decision to go to the Gym but once you are there you will know that it does matter and being fit is not as difficult as we look at it.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

It really changed the way I eat and live. I stopped smoking and cut down on junk foods. I am thankful to the TEAM Fitness for making me realize that health matters. Now I find myself much stronger and fitter. I find myself looking better too.

september 2015 – mary-anne kirk

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?

About 7 years.

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

Currently I’m doing the small group training sessions on a Monday with Phil and PT with Brooke. I also try to fit in an RPM, a CX and I know I need to put some stretching in there too.

What results have you achieved with your training?

My passion is Netball – I have or currently do play, coach and umpire at school, club, district, state and national levels. I’m heavily involved in Indigenous Schoolgirls Australian teams. I have coached teams for the last two years and this year I have been chosen to represent Australia in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Netball. To represent Australia in Netball has been a childhood dream and I’ve finally achieved it. My training allows me to bring it on the court. I’m an “older” player so I’m well aware that to match it with the youngies I need to be my fittest.

In my day job I’m a PE and dance teacher so I know that to deliver quality learning I need to model high expectations of behaviour, participation and skill. My training helps me to do that.

And at the end of the day I sleep really, really well!

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

Lots of things. The friendly trainers, the peers in my sessions, Phil’s rock music, etc.  I’ve been able to build some new friendships and rekindle some ones from the past. I also bring my young chargers from Netball here for some sessions and the TEAM staff are always welcome and willing to cater to their needs.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time?

Honestly – when I’m working hard I don’t enjoy it. To tell you the truth, sometimes I can’t wait for the session to end BUT I love the rush that happens after.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

The first time I came to TEAM fitness was when I was injured through Netball – I had a stress fracture in my foot and couldn’t play so I had to find another way to work on my fitness. I bought a 10 visit pass and only did RPM.  I was around when RPM did their 48hour challenge – does anyone remember that??

Then I bought a 3 month pass – only to use in the Netball off season.

Then I went to a 6 month pass, and then I bit the bullet and signed up for full membership via direct debit.

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

As I said above I bring my young chargers here to train. You may have seen us walking around in our blue C.N.A hoodies and uniform shirts. They love the step classes and RPM.

I also bring my daughter sometimes, but she’s SUUUUPPPPPEEER busy. She’s a dancer with quantum leap and she’s also been selected to represent Australia (as a player) in Indigenous Netball. We’re both going to ramp up our Yoga sessions because my flexibility is in serious decline and she needs to keep hers.

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

I think the most important thing is to have a go. It doesn’t really matter what you’re doing as long as you’re doing something. I think that a really great thing about TEAM fitness is that there’s so many choices that everyone can find something they like. I also think it’s really affordable. ANNNNNDDDD……………………Phil’s rock music is really cool.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

Hard work, but worth it.

august 2015 – aleesha hedges & carter moore

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?

Aleesha: I joined TEAM Fitness only about 6 months ago.

Carter: Aleesha kept raving about how awesome TEAM Fitness was, so I dropped my other gym and joined 4 months ago.

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

Aleesha: I try to mix it up with a range of group fitness classes including spin, boxing and circuit classes.

Carter: Boxing and RPM usually, with the occasional circuit class thrown in. I try to do free weights when I can find the time.

What results have you achieved with your training?

Aleesha: Since joining the gym and getting my nutrition under control I’ve lost 13 kilograms, and feel stronger and fitter than I ever have in my life! Oh, and I just managed to come in second place in the Tour De France challenge!

Carter: I’ve dropped 19 kilos since joining TEAM Fitness. I’ve way exceeded my weight loss targets and am looking forward to getting on with toning my new body with weight training.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

Aleesha: I love the small and friendly atmosphere. It’s never too crowded, and you get to know the trainers and other regulars well.

Carter: The trainers are awesome, and everyone in the classes are super friendly. It’s really a great atmosphere to train in.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time??

Aleesha: Having good instructors that push me harder! BIGGER! BIGGER! BIGGER!

Carter: Testing my limits and feeling the results straight away. There’s always one more gear.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

Aleesha: I wanted to be able to keep up with my 6 year old son and feel comfy at the beach this summer.

Carter: I had a skiing accident last winter that knocked me out of training. Between that and the holidays, I put on way too much weight. It was long past time to get it under control!

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

Aleesha: Yep, my partner, Carter, whose comments you can see here.

Carter: I’ve encouraged a lot of my workout buddies to check it out.

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

Aleesha: Here is a quote I heard recently ‘A year from now you’ll wish you had started today!’

Carter: I’ve been on a long fitness journey, at one point being 150 kilos and working my way down to 95. Putting it off won’t get you fit – you’ve just gotta get into it!

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

Aleesha: My Team Fitness experience has pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me reach fitness and weight loss goals I didn’t think were possible.

Carter: It’s been a real treat training at TEAM Fitness. I had tried going it alone for a long time because I didn’t think classes were right for me, but I’ve had an awesome time getting fit.

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?

On and off for 15 years, but more regularly over the last few years

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

PT with Chris and I’ve done boot camps and self-defence classes.   I’ve done a couple BTC’s as well.

What results have you achieved with your training?

Lost some weight, built up strength, but my main focus has been building up my knees after a couple of serious injuries.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

Everyone’s pretty friendly, it’s got all the equipment you need, and it’s very close to work!

What do you enjoy most out of your training time?

The stretching session after PT.   It’s the five minutes were I can give thanks that I don’t have another session for 7 days.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

Two broken knees, and just a general desire to improve my overall health and fitness.

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

Yeah my sister has just joined!

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

Just to give it a go.  I hadn’t done PT before and it was really tough in the beginning but if you stick to it you’ll see some great results.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

I enjoy working out at the centre.   It’s just got a relaxed vibe.   Everyone’s really focused on helping you achieve your goals.

june 2015 – charles martinCharles Martin

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?

I was a member between 2009 – 2010, took a break while I was studying overseas and joined again in 2013.

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

I work on a program of strength training that my trainer, Cam, has set up for me and in my PT sessions we do a mix of strength and cardio. Just when I think Cam has figured out the hardest thing in the world for me to do (e.g. endless farmer’s walks up the stairs with kettlebells), he thinks of something even worse.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

In 2012 I ended up with a shoulder injury after a few months of working on my masters thesis and touring around Europe with my percussion group. I was worried about my long-term health since I get really focussed on work and fitness doesn’t come naturally for me. My Dad suggested that I try some PT sessions and I’ve been training ever since and have had great improvements in my fitness!

What results have you achieved with your training?

I’ve improved my strength a lot and found that this has made a big difference in my posture and helped my general well-being. Getting strong enough to do a few chin-ups is a big goal for me and I’ve recently started to get some into my training sessions (only at the start)! Cardio training has made a big difference in my daily bike-commute and I even get my bike up Mt. Ainslie and Black Mountain sometimes!

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I really like the welcoming atmosphere at TEAM Fitness, the staff are friendly, there are always a variety of different kinds of people training, and it feels like a little community.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time?

I like to keep records of my training and so I enjoy seeing the numbers go up and know that I’m making progress. It’s also a great chance to listen to some podcasts!

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

My parents have been training here as long as I can remember so they don’t need convincing and sometimes my wife comes along to train as well.

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot e.g. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

I think PT is a really valuable experience to try – it’s easy to get stuck in routines but a trainer can switch things up every week and find particular exercises to help with weak areas or tricky techniques. Just having somebody watch you train makes you try harder!

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

At TEAM Fitness I’ve had a lot of great advice and encouragement from my trainers, had a supportive environment to work hard, and had great results – as well as a lot of fun!

may 2015 – janice bartramDigital Camera

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?

Approximately 10 years. I had been attending the gym for 3-4 years prior to doing my first Challenge in 2009 until the present.

In the early days I only attended the classes, particularly Circuit, Step, RPM and CrossTraining, and I would never venture into the cardio room as I felt somewhat intimidated by all the equipment. The fact that I never had my glasses with me didn’t help!

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

Since commencing the Challenge in 2009 I have continued working with a Personal Trainer, working on my individual programs and having weekly PT. Up until the end of last year I also regularly attended the Team X sessions which I really enjoyed. My individual programs provide direction and focus and offer a mix of cardio and strength based workouts. As you progress through your program you can see the results as you increase your weights, speed, distance and number of repetitions. I have always done a 6km run once a week and last year I was attending a Body Attack class as well.

What results have you achieved with your training?

I always thought I was fit before commencing the Challenge in 2009, however I was blown away by my achievements at the end of the 16 weeks. My cardio and strength surpassed all my expectations – and I lost 12kg as well and so I was incredibly proud of my new slimmer and fitter self.

Since this time I have maintained a very good fitness level and managed to generally maintain my weight loss (with a bit of weight fluctuation from time to time but manageable), by regularly attending the gym and continuing to put in practice the dietary and cooking information I learned in the Challenge. In recent years I think my strength has probably increased the most.

Last year I entered the Canberra Running Festival and finished the 10km run in exactly 1 hour – I was pretty happy given it was just prior to my 60th birthday. I was very disappointed that I couldn’t compete again this year due to a knee injury.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I love that this gym isn’t “trendy” – that anyone, any age, any size, any shape, any choice of outfit, can feel at home. During the week I attend the gym early in the morning and so you get to know the other regulars who attend at that time and over the years you can make some lovely connections. I also really appreciate the end of year party that Chris puts on as this is another means for members to get to know each other. I’ve also really enjoyed the Team X inclusion in the program. And of course I value the gym’s close location to my home!

What do you enjoy most out of your training time?

I absolutely love PT. If I could afford it I’d do it more than once a week. I’m there to work hard. It’s from doing PT that you perfect your form which can only increase your overall performance and decrease potential injuries. I’m currently working with Scott Smith whom I trust and respect both for his knowledge and experience as well as his strong work ethics – apart from him being such a lovely man. He provides opportunities to enhance, strengthen and challenge. I think he is excellent.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

A couple of years before doing the 2009 Challenge I noticed the before and after “bodies” of a few regulars who had done the Challenge and was suitably impressed to seriously consider doing it myself. I didn’t think for a moment I could ever lose the 5-8 kg goal I set for myself and I didn’t believe I could get any fitter because I thought I was already “fit”. I went ahead anyway…..the rest is history!

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you in training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I know I have inspired a couple of people to do PT who would not have done so otherwise.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at TEAM Fitness?

The greatest gift my 2009 Challenge gave me was a personal commitment to pursuing and maintaining a higher level of physical fitness and knowing that whenever I digress too far from this goal I can and will get back on track.

Scott Smith, Janet’s trainer comments:

Janice is always my 1st client on a Thursday morning starting at 6 or 6.30am. Her session always sets the tone and mood for my day and without fail it is a positive and vibrant one.

Janice has only missed one session in six months of training together and that was due to a leg injury. We have managed to work around several injuries and Janice has viewed these injuries as a chance to improve other areas of her fitness rather than use them as an excuse not to train. Her commitment to training and always using good technique and form has reaped rewards as she has a great level of fitness and it is well balanced. Her program consists of a mixture of strength and cardio sessions and her flexibility is also well above average. You take Janice on in a push up challenge at your own peril.

I look forward to continuing to work with Janice and seeing what new goals she sets and achieves in the coming months.

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?

About 5 years now, I have trained with a number of TEAM Fitness trainers and am now with Cam.

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

I do personal training once a week, supplemented by a training plan written by Cam. Recently we’ve focussed on cardio fitness and weight loss, and I’m now moving to some weights for muscle growth.

What results have you achieved with your training?

I’ve lost 15kg from my peak weight, and I’ve increased my fitness to a stage where I can comfortably run around Lake Burley Griffin.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

The staff and other clients make it a very welcoming environment to train in. I also like that it is a local business rather than a chain.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time?

Constantly being pushed to the next level by Cam has seen me achieve results much faster than I would have been able to achieve on my own. I also enjoy how varied Cam’s training sessions are; I’m continually learning new exercises that I can work into my own sessions.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

I just realised that I had to put the effort in if I wanted anything to change!

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I’ve brought some friends along to some training sessions, and we’ve done some classes together. It’s been a great way to ensure we both commit to a workout!

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

I used to feel the same way, but this feeling disappeared almost immediately after joining. I found that personal training was a great way to become familiar with the gym and the equipment, and I quickly gained confidence in coming to the gym by myself.

My personal trainers have always been able to tailor my training to my fitness level, so I’ve always been pushed to the next level at a pace that suits me.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

It’s been great! I would recommend the gym to anyone who’s considering it!

We started at TEAM Fitness about five years ago.  We had done some personal training prior to joining the gym and so felt fine about using the weights and cardio without having a trainer watching over us.  However, two years ago, we both felt like we wanted to step up our training so Siwan started with Simon and Tom with Ollie.  We were really lucky that Brooke was at TEAM Fitness and took both of us on when Simon and Ollie left the gym.

We both do a personal training session with Brooke, as well as coming in and doing cardio a couple of times a week.

Siwan: Brooke and I work together on developing boxing skills, as it is something I love to do.  It gives me a full body workout and the very satisfying feeling of hitting something (or someone) really hard!  I also like body balance, and when work permits comes in on a Wednesday to the morning class.

Tom: I really enjoy my PT sessions. Brooke always works me hard, but there is also always some different challenges each week. Brooke is careful to design our PT sessions to take into account my dodgy back, dicky knees, wobbly ankles, stuffed shoulder etc etc!

What results have you achieved with your training?

We have both increased our cardio fitness and our strength.  One of the motivating factors for coming to the gym is that over the last few years we have discovered a love of camping and kayaking.  We needed to be able to lift the kayaks up on to the roof of the car, carry them along riverbanks and get them in and out of the water.  We also wanted to have the fitness to go on an extended camping trip last year, where we were putting our camper trailer up and down, and doing a lot of walking in the Flinders Ranges and Uluru.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

It’s a gym that does not focus on wearing the latest lycra!  We find it has a good atmosphere that is supportive of your training, regardless of your age.  We like the mix of classes and personal training that is available, and we find the staff friendly and knowledgeable.  We also like the community feel and bumping into people we know from school, work and camping.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time?

We have to be honest and say the feeling at the end of your personal training session when you are completely stuffed but feel great that you have achieved things you never thought you could do!  We also think Brooke is a LEGEND!  She makes our sessions enjoyable and rewarding (even though it hurts sometimes…).   Brooke is a terrific trainer, as she listens to what you want and develops programs that work for you.    We also like complaining about Brooke being ‘mean to us’ when we are at home and comparing sessions!

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

We inspire each other because we are both keen to be able to do lots of outdoor activities with our son, and to keep travelling and enjoying life together.  As you get older you realise you need look after your mind and body so that you can keep doing all that you want to do.  We also enjoy feeling strong and fit, and like being part of a community that values those things as well.

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

We know a lot of people that come to TEAM Fitness already, and we always encourage people who are thinking about joining to choose this gym.  The real key is to let someone know about the gym when they really want to come for themselves – it is important you are here for yourself and not because you are trying to please someone else.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

Rewarding, fun, hard work, novel and empowering.

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?

I first joined the centre in mid – 2013.  I firstly worked out on my own and did an occasional RPM class.  Before long I noticed the PT sessions going on around me and decided that a personal trainer would help me in achieve better fitness results.  I started training with Oli 1 session per week and it’s built from there.

What sort of training do you do at TEAM Fitness?

Currently I am doing two PT sessions a week with Cameron, and ordinarily do 1-2 Team X classes per week.  I was a bit hesitant to do the Team X classes at first but Brooke encouraged me to come along, and it has become something I really look forward to.

What results have you achieved with your training?

People always think I’m joking when I tell them that when I started training I couldn’t run 100 metres without collapsing, but it’s actually not far from the truth!

I’ve lost a size over the time I have been training, quite a few cm and I have much better muscle tone.  The result I’m happiest about though is that I’m fitter, stronger and have more endurance now than at any other time. I feel like my current fitness means I’m not just getting better results in the gym, but I’m also getting more out of life.

I think the other result is that Cameron has helped me adopt a new mental approach to training which helps me get the most out of everything I do at the gym.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I love the friendly and relaxed vibe at the Centre.  I’ve met some great people including other members, the trainers and the reception staff.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time?

Cameron is a great personal trainer.  He puts a lot of thought into our sessions and has helped me get further than I ever thought I could.  Having a creative trainer is a great thing – I’ve learned lots of ways to train I never would have thought of.  I’m never bored and Cameron always has a new challenge in store for me.

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

I was conscious that I wasn’t being physically active enough.  Travelling for work and having a sedentary job makes it easy to fall into bad habits.  I decided enough was enough and haven’t looked back.

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I’ve encouraged quite a few people around me to come into the gym.  I told my neighbour who was new to Canberra about the centre and how friendly everyone is.  She joined and raves about how great it is.

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

I would say that I had those same concerns, especially about Team X, but ultimately everyone in those classes, PT and other experiences started from exactly the same place. There is so much support and encouragement that the concerns will quickly evaporate.  It’s also great way to push yourself to the next level and improve technique.  One of the things I enjoy most is being inspired by the fitness journey of other members.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

I’ve met some great people and had lots of fun while getting fit.

How long have you been coming to TEAM Fitness Centre?

I started coming to the gym regularly about four months ago. I first joined about five years ago.

What sort of training do you do at TEAM?

I do personal training with Cameron, Team X and strength, cardio and interval programs that Cam has put together for me.

What results have you achieved with your training?

The biggest results have been improved fitness and strength, and some weight loss.

What do you like about training at TEAM Fitness Centre?

The staff are very encouraging and down to earth and everyone is friendly. It never feels intimidating walking through the door.

What do you enjoy most out of your training time?

I really enjoy personal training and Team X because every session is different. It’s also been great to learn how to use and train with equipment that I would’ve otherwise avoided (eg ropes and sled push!!) and also to realise how much more you can do if you push yourself!

What inspired you to join and improve your health and fitness?

I wasn’t feeling very healthy – I quit smoking and took up chocolate! I was feeling tired a lot of the time. I also wanted to set a good example for my daughter.

Have you inspired or encouraged others to join you training here at TEAM Fitness Centre?

I’ve managed to get my mum back to the gym after a long break.

What message do you want to put out there for all those members that don’t quite have the courage and don’t think they are fit enough and for those that are fit enough but a little nervous about giving it a shot eg. joining the gym for starters, going a bit further with PT, joining in the different experiences offered?

One of the things that helped me was remembering that everyone has to start somewhere. I was nervous about trying Team X but I also knew that I needed a push. I was definitely not the fittest or strongest but I gave it a go and now I really enjoy it. No one is bothered about who is the fastest or lifting the most weights; everyone is running their own race.  It’s also been a good way to meet other gym-goers who are there for the same reason.

Personal training with Cam keeps me accountable and has pushed me far beyond what I thought I could do. Cam is really encouraging and knows when I can do more and makes sure that I do! I would really recommend personal training to reach whatever your goals are. It has motivated me to push myself in my other gym sessions, helped me with my technique and made me more confident in the gym.

In a nutshell how would you describe your experience at Team Fitness?

Team Fitness has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere – everyone encourages you to do your best and motivates you to push yourself beyond what you think you can do. It’s been very rewarding so far!
